SGEU MVP of the Week: Zach Cain, Melville Millionaires

It was a jam packed week for the Melville Millionaires playing four games in five nights on the road in two of the toughest rinks in the entire SJHL. Despite the Mills only going 1-3 on the swing, which saw them play two games in La Ronge and a pair in Flin Flon, they were led up front by their Captain Zach Cain. The 20-year-old Pilot Butte, Saskatchewan product had 3 goals and 5 assists this past week, which brings his total on the season to 12 goals and 15 assists. Cain’s 27 points leads the entire Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

Sasktel Goalie of the Week: Berney Weston, Weyburn Red Wings

Friday was a special night for Berney Weston. Making his SJHL debut for the Weyburn Red Wings, the 2007 born netminder was brilliant in between the pipes for the Wings, stopping 29 of 30 shots and helping Weyburn pick up a 4-1 win on the road in Nipawin. Weston is with the Swift Current Legionnaires U18 AAA team where he has a 2.76 GAA and .919 SV% in 6 games so far this season.

Direct West Rookie of the Week: Carston Kayter, Humboldt Broncos

For the 2nd time this season Cartson Kayter has won the Direct West Rookie of the Week. Kayter played a big role in the Broncos 3-2 win over the Battlefords North Stars Saturday notching a pair of assists, which included on the game winner. The 16-year-old continues to impress and has compiled 1 goal and 11 assists in his rookie season and is also playing a huge role on the Broncos backend so far this season.

Defenceman of the Week: Connor Abric, La Ronge Ice Wolves

The La Ronge Ice Wolves picked up 4 out of a possible 6 points this week and they were led on the blue line by Connor Abric. The 20-year-old had points in all 3 of the Ice Wolves games this week, notching a goal and two assists. This brings Abric to 3 goals and 4 assists on the season, and is the most among any Ice Wolves defender.
