SGEU MVP of the Week: Bryden Kiesman, Nipawin Hawks

The Nipawin Hawks split their opening weekend of the 22/23 season and leading the way for the Hawks offensively was forward Bryden Kiesman. The Winnipeg, Manitoba product netted a goal and an assist Friday night against the La Ronge Ice Wolves and then followed it up with a goal and two assists in the Hawks 5-2 win over the Flin Flon Bombers in Nipawin’s home opener.

SaskTel Goalie of the Week: Joel Favreau, Melfort Mustangs

Despite an up and down weekend for the Melfort Mustangs results wise, it was a great start to the year in between the pipes for Joel Favreau. The 20-year-old from Prince Albert was superb in both of his outings this past weekend, stopping 47 of 49 shots faced and allowing just one goal in each contest.

DirectWest Rookie of the Week: Carsten Kayter, Humboldt Broncos

While they only took to the ice once on opening weekend, there was a lot to like from the Humboldt Broncos 7-2 win over the Notre Dame Hounds. This includes the play of Rookie Defenceman Carsten Kayter. The Warman Saskatchewan product made his SJHL debut Saturday night and he did not disappoint, registering a pair of assists in his home ice debut.

Defenceman of the Week: Tyson Perkins, Yorkton Terriers

The Yorkton Terriers are one of two teams who are 2-0 following the opening weekend of the season and a big reason why they swept their home and home with the Estevan Bruins was the play of 19-year-old blue liner Tyson Perkins. The Lethbridge, Alberta product registered an assist in each of the Terriers wins.
