Power Rankings Nov 28th

The SJHL Power Rankings are decided each and every week by a group of SJHL broadcasters and will be released each Tuesday.

1. Flin Flon Bombers 20-1-2-0 (Last Week 1st):

It was a business trip for the Flin Flon Bombers this past weekend as they earned five out of a possible six points in the Parkland region. Captain Justin Lies had a great weekend with three goals and three assists, and Harmon Laser-Hume was superb in between the pipes and as a result, earned Sasktel Goalie of the Week honours. The Bombers will return home this week to play three games in four nights. Wednesday they welcome Melfort, Friday host Yorkton, and Saturday tangle with Humboldt.

2. Battlefords North Stars 18-7-0-1 (Last Week 2nd):

After having their 10 game winning streak snapped Wednesday in Melfort, the Battlefords North Stars bounced back by sweeping their home and home with the Nipawin Hawks. The Stars have won 12 of their last 13 games and continue to rise. They will be back at the ACC this week for three games at home. They will host Notre Dame, Estevan, and Melville.

3. Humboldt Broncos 15-5-2-1 (Last Week 3rd): The Humboldt Broncos had a solid week earning four out of a possible six points and were only a couple of minutes away from sweeping the entire week. Matthew Van Blaricom continues to climb up the SJHL scoring list as he registered 3 goals and 6 assists in three games last week. Humboldt will be back on the bus this week for three games in three nights. They will be in La Ronge Thursday and Friday, then wrap up the trip in Flin Flon Saturday.

4. Melfort Mustangs 15-8-2-0 (Last Week 4th): It was an extremely difficult schedule for the Melfort Mustangs this past week and despite several injuries, the Mustangs won two out of a possible three games. They snapped Battlefords 10 game winning streak and then earned a big two points on the road Saturday in Humboldt. Melfort will be back on the road Wednesday when they visit the Flin Flon Bombers and then play a home and home with the Notre Dame Hounds on the weekend.

5. Melville Millionaires 12-10-0-0 (Last Week 7th): This past week you saw the good and the bad from the Melville Millionaires. They suffered a tough loss to the Nipawin Hawks 6-1 Tuesday but then beat the top team in the CJHL (according to the Top 20 rankings) the Flin Flon Bombers for the 2nd time this season on Saturday. The Mills will be looking to build off that victory as they get on the bus and travel to Kindersley Friday and Battlefords Saturday.

6. Nipawin Hawks 12-13-0-1 (Last Week 6th): The same can be said for the Nipawin Hawks this past week as fans saw some good and some bad. The Hawks kicked off the week with a massive 6-1 win in Melville but then dropped both games to the Stars. This included Saturday night where they had a 3-1 lead slip through their grasp in the 3rd period. The Hawks are back at it Tuesday night against Yorkton, and then will be off until December 6th.

7. Weyburn Red Wings 10-9-0-4 (Last Week 8th): Weyburn finished the week on a winning note, knocking off the Estevan Bruins 8-5 at Affinity Place Saturday. However, tough losses to Humboldt and Notre Dame earlier in the week have the Wings just above the .500 mark on the season. Like Nipawin, Weyburn will get the week off and are back at it December 6th against the Hawks in Nipawin.

8. Kindersley Klippers 9-11-2-2 (Last Week 5th): The Kindersley Klippers hit a snag this past weekend as they fell to the La Ronge Ice Wolves twice at the West Central Events Centre. This off the heels of a 7 out of 10 point week. Kindersley will remain at home this week as they host Notre Dame Tuesday, Melville Friday, and Estevan Saturday.

9. Estevan Bruins 10-10-0-2 (Last Week 9th): Up and down weeks are the common denominator in the power rankings for a lot of teams. This rings true for the Estevan Bruins as well as they beat Notre Dame 8-5 Wednesday and then fell by the same score Saturday to Weyburn. The battle with consistency continues for the Bruins who will look to get back in the win column when they hit the road to Battlefords and Kindersley this weekend.

10. La Ronge Ice Wolves 7-15-2-1 (Last Week 12th): It was a great weekend for the La Ronge Ice Wolves as they won both games in Kindersley. With the pair of wins, the Ice Wolves are now just 5 points out of the 8th and final playoff spot and are now about to begin a six game homestand. It begins Thursday when they host Humboldt, the two clubs will also meet Friday, and then Saturday the Ice Wolves welcome Yorkton to the Mel.

11. Notre Dame Hounds 7-16-1-0 (Last Week 11th): After a tough mid-week loss to the Estevan Bruins Wednesday, the Notre Dame Hounds would head out to Radville Friday and come back to win 5-4 over the Weyburn Red Wings. For Notre Dame, they are hoping this can spark a big momentum swing for them as they begin a very busy week Tuesday in Kindersley. They will also be in Battlefords Wednesday, Melfort Friday, and return home Saturday to face the Mustangs once again.

12. Yorkton Terriers 8-13-1-1 (Last Week 10th): Following their four game winning streak, the Yorkton Terriers have lost three straight. However, there are some encouraging signs with the Terriers’ play despite the losses in both games against the Flin Flon Bombers, the Terriers got out to a lead. Yorkton will be looking to snap that losing skid Tuesday night when they host Nipawin. Yorkton will also be on the road this weekend in Flin Flon and La Ronge.
