Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League

RBC Community Ambassador programme returns to the SJHL for 26-27

Media Release

2026-27 RBC-SJHL Community Ambassadors

For the ninth year, RBC is partnering with the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) to highlight the league’s athletes who are making a difference in their communities.

One player from each SJHL team who has demonstrated an exemplary commitment to their community and strong leadership both on and off the ice will be named to the 12-member RBC Community Ambassador team. RBC Community Ambassadors are recognized for giving back to the communities where they play.

Each ambassador will be celebrated at an RBC Game Night* and honoured with a $1,000 donation from RBC to a school in their local community.

At the end of the SJHL regular season, the winner will receive the SJHL’s RBC Community Award, along with an additional $2,500 donation from RBC in the player’s name to a school in their local community.

Celebrating Community Impact

Last season’s SJHL RBC Community Award winner, Ryder McKinnon of the La Ronge Ice Wolves, received the award and was able to donate $2,500 to Pre-Cambrian School in La Ronge, Sask.

“It is a huge honour (to be named RBC Community Award winner),” said McKinnon. “It means so much to our community up in La Ronge, and it means a lot for the school to get that money. The community up there cares so much, they’re really the backbone for our hockey team, and we appreciate them so much.”

“The SJHL is honoured to continue this partnership and bring back the RBC Community Ambassador Program for another season,” said SJHL Director of Marketing and Partnerships Nick Shumlanski.

“Initiatives like this strengthen our connection to the twelve communities we proudly represent. We’re looking forward to an exciting season and celebrating the next RBC Community Ambassador.”

“RBC’s longstanding partnership with SJHL reflects our shared recognition of the contribution that these players can make as athletes and as community members,” said Jon Barth, Regional Vice President, Southern Saskatchewan.

“Congratulations and thank you to this season’s ambassadors for inspiring more youth to lead and make a positive impact.”
