Weyburn Red Wings forward Ethan Dekay has committed to the University of Manitoba in CanadaWest for the 2025-26 USports campaign.
Dekay, 20, posted 29 goals and 68 points in 67 regular and postseason contests for the league finalist Red Wings a season ago.
A native of Mississauga, ON, he spent time over his three-year junior career in the Alberta Junior Hockey League, BCHL, and North American Hockey League, before he landed in Weyburn early in the 2024-25 campaign.
Ethan was named the team’s Most Dedicated Player and Hardest Worker in 2025, and was also the Prairie Hockey Academy MVP in 2022 when he amassed 45 points in 35 games.
“Ethan is a former NCAA Division 1 commit of Michigan Tech. He has elite skating ability and speed and the ability to create offence single-handedly,” said Manitoba Bisons head coach Gordon Burnett to the UofM website.
“I’m super excited about the opportunity to play for the Bisons,” Dekay added. “This is a pivotal moment for me to grow both as a person and player. Manitoba is a great school and I believe it will help me be successful. I want to thank everyone who helped me reach this goal. I’m really looking forward to playing alongside great players and meeting new people.”
Dekay is the 29th SJHLer from last season to commit to USports, and 67th player overall to find his post-secondary opportunity.
His brother Luke is currently in his second campaign in Weyburn.
