SaskEnergy’s target of 1,000 total home goals in the 2021-2022 Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League regular season was hit last night.
With 4:15 remaining in the third period on an Ice Wolves’ power play, La Ronge defenceman Bryan Gilman snuck in behind the Flin Flon killers, took a sweet feed from Ryley Morgan, and scored to tie the game; and it was the goal we have all been waiting for.
SaskEnergy has pledged to donate $20 for every goal scored at home in a Saskatchewan market throughout the regular season up to a maximum of 1,000 goals or $20,000 to KidSport, a program in partnership with the SJHL aimed at helping youth participate in sport by reducing the financial pressure often associated with accessing sports activities.
Gilman will be recognized with a medal for putting in the 1,000th goal.
Teams throughout the league are also in competition to score the most home goals in hopes of hoisting the “KidSport Cup”.
SaskEnergy has already given away a natural gas barbecue to support this program, and over the past seven years, Goals for KidSport has raised over $180,000 to help kids all over Saskatchewan play the game they love.
