Ty Mason is a local ‘05 Forward from Weyburn SK. Mason is proving himself to be one of the most promising underage players in the league. After a slow start to the season, Mason has six points in his last five games.

Despite Mason’s age, he has been a staple in Weyburn’s lineup this year and since the departure of the 20 year olds, Mason has led the way offensively while building good chemistry with some of the newcomers.

T.Y.(Tee-Why), as his teammates call him, played his minor hockey in Weyburn before joining the Notre Dame Hounds U15 AAA team. Mason played last season with the U18 AAA Estevan Bears (6 GP) before making the jump to the SJHL’s Weyburn Red Wings as a 16 year old.

The family factor. Ty’s dad, Willy Mason, is an Estevan Bruins alumni. Willy played 108 games while putting up 101 points and a staggering 459 penalty minutes in two seasons.

Mason has developed into a responsible 200 foot player. He’s dangerous offensively with a release that not many players have at this level and his drive to want to win and be better is coming to the forefront in January.
