REGINA, SK – Brock Inglis opened the scoring for La Ronge at 5:45, but Jack Martin’s pair started and ended the rally as the Flin Flon Bombers downed the Ice Wolves 4-1 in their home opener and the Hall of Fame game that kicked off the weekend’s festivities in northern Manitoba.
Jared Miskiw also added a goal and an assist in the win, while Finn Werner made 17 stops to help the Bombers improve to 2-0 on their 100th season.
Riley Zezel stopped 33 shots in defeat.
Down 4-2 with eight minutes remaining in the third period, the Humboldt Broncos rallied late and got the overtime winner from Cody Farrell to edge the Battlefords North Stars 5-4.
Farrell now leads the early-season rookie scoring.
Jase McNichol led the way with a pair of goals, and seven different Red Wings had multi-point nights as Weyburn outlasted their Highway 39 rival Estevan Bruins 8-5.
Caleb Potter paced the visitors from down the road with three assists in defeat.
Nate Stevens and Ethan Berard shared the win with 22 stops in the Weyburn net, while Brady Carr replied with 33 stops in the loss.
Jaden Kokosha notched the winner at 17:39, and the Melville Millionaires edged the Melfort Mustangs 2-1.
Wesley Olsen tied the contest for the Moneymen after Tyson Janzen opened the scoring for Melfort.
Noah Kraus was stellar, making 30 saves in the win.
Ethan Dundas scored a beautiful breakaway goal that held up as the winner with just over four minutes remaining in regulation, lifting the Warman Wolverines past the Nipawin Hawks 5-4.
Mason Karakochuk brought the Hawks back to within one at the 2:46 mark of the final frame, but Luke Brunen’s 43 saves helped the Wolverines hold on for their third straight win.
Finally in Kindersley, Jake Briltz led the way with a goal and an assist as the Yorkton Terriers outlasted the Klippers 4-1.
Callum Creig made 21 stops in the win, and Austin Horbachewsky’s game-winner was already his second of the year in just three games.
