REGINA, SK – The higher-seeded teams were perfect once again Saturday night.

All four teams pulled out wins and improved to 2-0 in their respective series ahead of the mid-week sets at the homes of the lower seeds.

It was the defending champion Battlefords North Stars who grabbed the tightest contest when Logan Cunningham’s 27 saves and Alex Izyk’s second-period goal proved the winner in a 2-1 Game 2 victory over the Melville Millionaires.

In both Humboldt and Melfort, the underdogs fell valiantly.

Down 6-2 in the third period, the Weyburn Red Wings scored twice mid-way through to cut the Broncos’ lead to two. Yet Ben Motew held the fort while making 36 saves and Humboldt took a 2-0 lead in their series with a 7-4 victory.

Similarly, at the Northern Lights Palace, the Estevan Bruins were down 5-1 early in the final frame but rallied to cut the lead to two with under 15 minutes left. Yet the Mustangs did not break, and ultimately pulled away for a 7-4 win.

Meanwhile at the Whitney Forum in Flin Flon, Alexi Sylvestre’s first-period hat trick set the tone as the No. 1 seed Bombers downed the No. 8 Kindersley Klippers 8-0.
