SGEU MVP of the Month: Jacob Strizzi, Humboldt Broncos
Fifteen games into the season, and Jacob Strizzi still has only one contest so far this year without a point; and that was Game 2. His 13-game point streak has been a critical reason the hard-working Broncos end October in first place. He had high expectations, from inside and out, heading into the season, but it is fair to say he has exceeded even those after finishing third in league scoring a year ago. There are a lot of reasons Humboldt is a championship contender, but Jacob is right at the top of it.
Month Stats: 15 GP – 16 G, 10 A – 26 pts
Bourgault Forward of the Month: Ewan Rennie, Estevan Bruins
The Estevan Bruins have never had this much talent around the always-consistent Rennie, so he is loving life at Affinity Place. Not only is he on an eight-game point streak, but it has been three weeks since he played a game, and did not have a multi-point outing (four of five multi-goal games as well). By no means does he need to be a saviour for this club, with a long and growing list of talented veterans up front, but his instant offence has been on display from the drop of the puck this year.
Month Stats: 14 GP – 13 G, 12 A – 25 pts
SuperU Defenceman of the Month: Gavin Granger, Battlefords North Stars
By many accounts, the Connor Logan era in the Battlefords has started as well as it could have, and a big reason is the on-ice play, and the off-ice leadership, of Gavin Granger. Not only is he third in defenceman scoring after the first month and a bit of the season, but he also leads the league with a plus-minus rating of +13. He averages around 24 minutes-per-game as well, and with Linken Fisher is part of one of the best defence pairs in the SJHL.
Month Stats: 12 GP – 3 G, 12 A – 15 pts
Sasktel Goalie of the Month: Charlie Tritt, Humboldt Broncos
Humboldt Broncos netminder Charlie Tritt earns SaskTel Goalie of the Month honours after a dominant October between the pipes. The 2004-born goaltender was a consistent force for the Broncos, posting a stellar record, including three shutouts, and leads in most categories. Tritt’s calm, technically sound play has anchoured one of the SJHL’s top teams, giving Humboldt confidence every night he’s in goal.
Month Stats: 9-2-0-0 – 3 SO, 1.88 GAA, .949 SV%
SaskMilk Rookie of the Month: Roan Burgess, Weyburn Red Wings
Burgess’ scoring prowess has made a major impact for the Wings so far this year. The 2007-born forward tallied 6 goals and 8 assists for 14 points in 12 games, quickly establishing himself as one of the league’s top young playmakers. Burgess’s blend of speed, skill, and hockey sense has helped energize the Red Wings’ offence throughout the month.
Month Stats: 12 GP – 6 G, 8 A – 14 pts
Canterra Seeds Saskatchewan Player of the Month: Kale Margolis, Melville Millionaires (from Kinistino, Sask)
The WHL-experienced forward led the SJHL in scoring during October with 19 points (7 goals, 12 assists) in 12 games, driving the Melville offence and contributing in all situations. Margolis’ consistency have been key in helping the Millionaires stay competitive in a tough early-season schedule. He has also been at or near the top of the league in face-off percentage since he arrived.
Month Stats: 12 GP – 7 G, 12 A – 19 pts
