REGINA, SK – The La Ronge Ice Wolves have brought back Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) Hall of Famer Bob Beatty as general manager ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
Beatty, 71, hails from La Ronge and has over 30 years of coaching experience, 17 of which were as a head coach in the SJHL.
He guided the Ice Wolves to their only two championships in club history, in 2010 and 2011, and served as head coach and general manager there between 2004 and 2013.
Beatty has coached the Humboldt Broncos, the Cowichan Valley Capitals and Nanaimo Clippers of the British Columbia Hockey League, and the Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League in his career.
The now Watrous, SK resident also assisted then-Melville Millionaires head coach Jamie Fiesel with Canada West’s entry into the 2012 U17 World Hockey Challenge.
He was on the Wolves’ bench on an interim basis this past March until the end of the season.
“I was here nine years. I have a lot of friends here. It’s always been a soft spot in my heart, so it wasn’t hard to decide to come help out a team that I have a lot of fond memories with,” Beatty told Derek Cornet of LaRongeNow at the time.
Beatty was inducted into the SJHL Hall of Fame in 2022.
“Where they’re at is a difficult position for sure. There’s a lot to like about the team. There’s some good, young talent,” Beatty said to Cornet back in March.
“I have to say we had a really difficult year one year I was coaching, and that was the year prior to us winning our first championship, so there’s lots to build on. The scouting staff, and Kevin and Kyle, identified where they need to improve. They’ll have a task ahead of them over the summer to get that executed.”
The Ice Wolves have not yet announced their plans for the head coaching position.
