SJHL PLAYERS OF THE MONTH (January)

RBC SJHL PLAYER OF THE MONTH:  Logan Foster, Humboldt Broncos
1999 F Logan Foster (Kamsack SK) paced the Humboldt Broncos this month with 9-goals and 10-assists in 12-games played, including a stretch at the start of the month where he fired 7-goals and 8-assists in 6-games to kick off the calendar year.  Among the highlights was a 2-goal game at Kindersley on January 9th and that was followed up with a hat trick and five points versus the Klippers on the 11th. Foster also had a 2-goal game and four points on January 3rd at Yorkton and registered points in 9/12 games during the month.  For the season, Foster leads the Broncos with 27-goals and 35-assists in 49-games, which is good for fifth overall in the league. Runner-up: Chantz Petruic, Yorkton.

MAYFAIR DIAGNOSTICS SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE MONTH:  Mason Martin, Flin Flon Bombers
1999 D Mason Martin (Winnipeg MB) had the best offensive month of his career in January, scoring 5-goals and 6-assists in 8-games.  Martin also had a strong showing at the SJHL MJHL Showcase in Regina. Martin found the scoresheet in seven of eight games played and also finished the month on a strong note by scoring 4-goals and 4-assists in 4-games played.  Martin had two 2-goal games and is now third overall amongst SJHL defensemen in scoring, just one point behind Seth Summers and Matthew Fletcher, both of the North Stars. For the season, Martin is up to 13-goals and 28-assists in 44-games and he has compiled 29-powerplay points.  Runner-up: Noah Form, Battlefords.

SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH:  Kristian Lyon & Austin Schwab, Battlefords North Stars
There isn’t usually a tie in these types of awards, but this month presents a unique circumstance.  Lyon went 4-and-0 with a 1.75-GAA and Schwab was also 4-and-0 with a 1.75-GAA and both are teammates with the Battlefords North Stars.  2000 G Lyon (Langley BC) was picked up in a trade and debuted January 15th with a 42-save shutout over Melville. He made three home starts in a row after that and allowed two goals in two of those starts and three in the other one, finishing with a SPCT of .950.  2001 G Schwab (Snohomish WA USA) made 30-saves on 31-shots at Notre Dame on January 14th and then allowed two goals in each of his other three starts for a SPCT of .940. Overall, Schwab is 12-and-2 with a 2.42-GAA and .919-SPCT. No runner-up.

DIRECTWEST SJHL ROOKIE OF THE MONTH:  Brady Nicholas, Estevan Bruins
2001 F Brady Nicholas (St. Albert AB) had a consistent month and was a big part of the Bruins’ surge towards challenging for first place in the Viterra Division.  Nicholas scored 6-goals and 8-assists in 12-games and picked up points in 9/12 games. He also had three 2-point games in a row and picked up multiple points in 4 of 5 games earlier in the month.  He scored twice at Nipawin on January 28th and has done the bulk of his damage at even strength. Overall, Nicholas has 11-goals and 12-assists in 33-games played, which places him 12th amongst first year players in the SJHL.  Runner-up: Tristan Lemyre, Flin Flon.
