SJHL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (Feb 4)

CANALTA HOTELS SJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:  Alec Malo, Flin Flon Bombers
1999 F Alec Malo (Laval PQ) has been an elite set-up man all season, but he showed his goal scoring prowess this week by sinking the La Ronge Ice Wolves for four goals on Saturday night in a statement winning 6-4 game.  Malo also helped the Bombers dominate Estevan with three assists in a 9-2 whitewash on Wednesday and then he had two more helpers Friday when Flin Flon rolled to a 7-1 decision over Weyburn.  Malo is second in league scoring with 19-goals and 60-assists in 44-games played, which places him first in helpers.  Runner-up:  Daylon Mannon, La Ronge.

MAYFAIR DIAGNOSTICS SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK:  Mason Martin, Flin Flon Bombers
1999 D Mason Martin (Winnipeg MB) was a special teams weapon this past week as he helped the Bombers to three straight wins and compiling 2-goals and 7-assists along the way.  Martin scored two goals with the man advantage on Wednesday night against Estevan and then had one of two helpers come on the powerplay on Friday against Weyburn.  All four assists Saturday over La Ronge came while the Bombers were up a man.  Martin is at 13-goals and 29-assists in 44-games, placing him right at the top with Matthew Fletcher and Seth Summers for points amongst SJHL defensemen.  He has 30-powerplay points.  Runner-up:  Kevin Fillier, La Ronge.

SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK:  Liam McGarva, La Ronge Ice Wolves
2000 G Liam McGarva (Fort Saskatchewan AB) posted a 28-save shutout on Wednesday night against the Weyburn Red Wings and then started again on Friday and turned aside 40-shots and allowing just two as the Ice Wolves defeated the Estevan Bruins and have themselves in position to challenge for the number three seed come playoff time.  It was a terrific rebound for McGarva who had allowed four goals or more in five of his previous seven appearances.  McGarva has enjoyed a great season and is now 21-9-3-and-2 with a 3.16-GAA and .916-SPCT, all the while he’s recorded 4-shutouts.  Runner-up:  Shawn Parkinson, Melfort.

DIRECTWEST SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:  Tristan Lemyre, Flin Flon Bombers
2001 F Tristan Lemyre (Mirabel PQ) had another standout week with 1-goal and 5-assists in 3-games and he’s been one of the SJHL’s top players since the first roster cutdown deadline of December 1st.  Lemyre has 30-points over his last 16-games, placing him second only to Chantz Petruic during that time stretch and he appears to be separating from the rest of the pack for the SJHL Rookie Of The Year Award.  Lemyre’s big night was Saturday in a crucial game against La Ronge when he had a goal and three helpers.  But he also set up goals in each of the Bomber victories against Estevan and Weyburn as well and now has 22-goals and 26-assists in 33-games.  Lemyre also just accepted a scholarship to Denver for 2021-22 (in all probability).  Runner-up:  Holden Knights, La Ronge.
