Super Saturday Recap – Jan 21st

It was the first “Super Saturday” of the 22/23 season in the SJHL Saturday night with all 12 teams taking to the ice for games. Highlights and recaps of all 6 contests can be found below.

The Humboldt Broncos won their 4th straight Saturday night with a 4-2 victory over the Battlefords North Stars in Martensville, completing the weekend sweep of the first place Stars. Cage Newans, Alec Saretsky, Tim Kim, and Chase Lacombe all found the back of the net for the Broncos who improved to 26-11-1-0 on the year and remain 2nd in the SJHL standings. Battlefords on the other hand has lost back to back games for the first time this season.

Nipawin 3 Kindersley 2 SO (Highlights Unavailable)

The Nipawin Hawks won their 5th straight game Saturday night in Rosetown as they knocked off the Kindersley Klippers 3-2 in a shootout. Braxton Buckberger led the charge offensively for the Hawks in regulation as he scored a pair and Alex Ochitwa, Carson Dobson, and Alex Johnson all found the back of the net in the shootout to secure the win for the Hawks who are now just 5 points back of Melfort for 6th. Spencer Paplawski and Aiden Taylor had goals for the Klippers in the loss.

The busy weekend in the SJHL wraps up Sunday night when the La Ronge Ice Wolves host the Notre Dame Hounds. Both teams are playing their 3rd game in as many days. Puck drop is set for 5pm.
