WEDNESDAY RECAP: Bombers, Stars move on to Round 2

fREGINA, SK – The Flin Flon Bombers and Battlefords North Stars are moving on.

Harmon Laser-Hume was terrific in making 34 stops and Matt Egan notched his first career playoff goal for the winner as the Bombers eliminated the Kindersley Klippers in four games with a 2-1 victory.

Battlefords’ strong defensive play continued, Rylan Williams scored in overtime, and the defending champions moved on to Round 2 with a 3-2 overtime win in Melville. Logan Cunningham ends Round 1 with a 4-0 record, a sparkling 1.71 goals-against-average and a .940 save percentage.

The Weyburn Red Wings proved they would be far from an easy out for Humboldt as they held serve with their second victory in as many days at home to tie the series. Nicholas Kovacs wrister at 19:24 of overtime handed the Wings the 4-3 win and tied the series at two.

Meanwhile, at Affinity Place, the Melfort Mustangs pushed the Estevan Bruins to the brink of elimination with a 5-2 triumph. Aidyn Hutchinson led the way for Melfort with his fifth and sixth goals, a stat of which he leads the league in the post-season.

Friday will feature another team, the Estevan Bruins, on the brink of elimination in Game 5, while the Weyburn Red Wings will look to win their third in a row.
