Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League

PLAYERS OF THE MONTH Sept/Oct 2019

RBC PLAYER OF THE MONTH:  Chantz Petruic, Yorkton Terriers
1999 F Chantz Petruic (Moose Jaw SK) has been on a tear since the opening night of the season, finishing the abbreviated month of September and all of October with 17-goals and 17-assists in 18-games played.  He was held off the scoresheet in the second game of the year, but has otherwise gotten a point in every game. He’s been in on a staggering 58% of all of the Yorkton Terrier goals this year. He has had two four-point games, including on October 1st when the Terriers handed the Battlefords North Stars their only loss of the season.  He also had four points on October 25th in a victory over Notre Dame. Runner-up: Donavan Houle, Flin Flon.

MAYFAIR DIAGNOSTICS SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE MONTH:  Matthew Fletcher, Battlefords North Stars
1999 D Matthew Fletcher (Saskatoon SK) has taken off and is going to obliterate his offensive career highs this year as he finished the first month and a half of the season with 5-goals and 18-assists in 19-games played.  His previous season high was 4 goals and his previous season high for points was 24. Fletcher had four assists in a game against Flin Flon at the Showcase in Warman and he also had 2-goals and 1-assist at Weyburn on October 5th.  He finished October with points in eight of nine games and his last game of the month was a three helper night in a come from behind victory over Nipawin. Runner-up: Nolan Kadachuk, Melfort.

SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH:  Keenan Rancier, Estevan Bruins
2000 G Keenan Rancier (Victoria BC) may actually have been the most valuable player on any team during the month of September/October as he was a fortress between the pipes for the Bruins despite a modest 5-6-2-and-1 record.  Rancier compiled a .933-SPCT and posted a 2.21-GAA and registered one shutout. He did more than his part to give his team a chance to win as he allowed two goals or less in 11 of 14 appearances. He had a 28-save shutout against Nipawin on October 5th.  That game marked the beginning of a three game win streak. The Bruins will hope to support Rancier better in November. If you remove a 10 goal outburst they had in one game against Melville, Estevan has managed just 36 total goals over the other 15 games played.  Runner-up: Adam Dmyterko, Battlefords.

DIRECTWEST SJHL ROOKIE OF THE MONTH:  Nic Porterfield, Melville Millionaires
2001 F Nic Porterfield (Calgary AB) took advantage of an opportunity to play on the Mils top line alongside former Midget AAA teammate Luke Spadafora and ripped off goals in six of his first seven games as an SJHLer.  That was highlighted with a hat trick and five points on September 18th in a win over Weyburn. In all, Porterfield had four multi-point games and ended September/October with 11-goals and 7-assists in 13-games played.  Runner-up: Kyle Ford, La Ronge.
