REGINA, SK – The Flin Flon Bombers gave absolutely everything they could in their fourth and final game at the 2026 Centennial Cup on Wednesday, but despite winning 3-1 over the Maritime League’s Truro Bearcats, they will not advance to the playoff round.
Flin Flon needed to win by five goals to earn the tie-breaker and sneak into the quarterfinals.
Reid Arberry’s bullet and Ryder Knutson’s seeing-eye point shot came 28 seconds apart late in the first period to give Flin Flon hope and a 2-0 lead.
The Bombers’ pressure continued all night, and Daniel Morozov picked up the Maroon and White’s third at the 11:25 mark of the third on a Flin Flon power play, and it seemed like a miracle might have been on the cards.
Yet despite throwing 36 shots at Truro net-minder Louca Connolla, they could not find any more offence, and were struck the final blow when Bearcats forward Jake Todd wired home an empty netter from 150 feet with 3:12 remaining in regulation.
Flin Flon finished the event with a record of 2-2, digging themselves out of a 0-2 hole to start the tournament, and gave an effort worthy of the Bomber and Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League name to try to produce some magic.
The season was an absolute success for the Bombers, who won their first SJHL title in 33 years.
