Both Wild Cards Going The Distance

Hein Scores OT Winner In Wilcox

Both Wild Card series’ are going three games, as both teams who lost on home ice in Game 1, bounced right back with road victories in Game 2’s on Tuesday.

Brandson Hein scored 3:48 into overtime and the Flin Flon Bombers kept their season alive with a 4-3 (OT) decision in Notre Dame.

The Bombers jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead on goals from Donavon Houle-Villeneuve, but Jack Flaman and the Hounds wouldn’t go away.  Houle-Villeneuve eventually notched his second of the game, but Flaman scored a hat-trick for the Hounds, following up his three assist performance in Game 1.  He tied the game twice in the third period, including with 5:12 remaining, forcing extra time.

Brenden Newton made 35/38 saves to pick up the win.  The teams will stay right there in Wilcox for Wednesday night’s Game 3.

The Melville Millionaires out-shot the Weyburn Red Wings 46-18, but Weyburn goalie Arik Weersink stopped all 46 to steal Game 2 for the Red Wings, and keep there season going with a 2-0 decision on the road, sending it back home for a Game 3 on Wednesday.

Rookie William Cruise scored in his first playoff game just over two minutes into the second period.  Tyran Brown added some insurance with an early third period powerplay goal.

Melville’s Colby Entz made 16/18 saves in the loss.

If Melville wins Game 3, they’ll be off to Nipawin for the Quarter-Finals.  If Weyburn wins on home ice, they’ll travel to Battlefords.
