The Flin Flon Bombers’ netminder has found his post-secondary puck-stopping home following his tenure in northern Manitoba.
Cal Shell has announced his commitment to Oswego State and will suit up for the NCAA Division III Lakers for the 2022/23 season.
“I’d like to thank my family, friends, billets, coaches, and teammates for helping me get to where I am today. I’m very excited for what the future holds,” Schell said via Twitter.
The Burlington, Ontario native is currently in his third year with Flon Flon, culminating with an exceptional 20-year-old-season. Through 28 games played, Schell is currently second in the league in wins with a 20-8-6-0 record. He also sits in 4th among SJHL goaltenders in both goals against average (2.43 GAA) and save percentage (.921), to go along with four shutouts.
“Cal has been a stud for us all year giving us the goaltending that you need to be in the top half of the league, said Bombers’ Head Coach and GM, Mike Reagan. “We knew from game-4 in the playoffs two years ago that he could elevate his play in big games. He’s got a confidence about him that carries over to the rest of the team when he’s in net. It’s not the amount of saves he makes, but when he makes them, that makes him such a good goalie. He’s committed to a very good division I program, but still has aspirations for a div 1 scholarship. We believe he has the ability to play at that level.”
Oswego State is located in Oswego, New York.
