North Stars blue liner, Sam Witt has committed to Albertus Magnus College in New Haven Connecticut this fall, for the 2022-23 hockey season.

The Calgary, Alta., product, said the opportunity to take his game to the next level and play college hockey is something he’s been working towards the last couple of years.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” Witt said. “It’s been a huge goal of mine [to play postsecondary hockey], as hockey’s been my life since I was five years old, so I’m really excited to continue pursuing my hockey career out east at Albertus Magnus; it should be a great experience.”

In the classroom, Witt will pursue a degree in business.

An all-situations rearguard for the team this year, featuring in as a key component of both the club’s special team’s units and as a mentor for one of the youngest blue lines in the league, head coach of the Stars, Brayden Klimosko said he couldn’t have been happier to see the commitment come together.

“Obviously Sam’s been a big part of our team here and he’s been a great leader in our room since coming over from Kindersley last year,” Klimosko said. “I’m excited for what the future holds for him both next year and moving forward.”

In 37 games this year, Witt has recorded two goals and 13 points, to sit second on the team in defenceman scoring. His contributions have helped lead the team to fifth overall in the league standings, with a 23-10-5 record this season.

He will be joining another successful hockey program next year, as the Albertus Magnus Falcons are 10-5-1 this season in NCAA Division III Hockey.
