The Humboldt Broncos are beyond pleased to announce that Ethan Zielke has committed to NCAA DIV I Lindenwood University and will join the Lions following his junior career.
Zielke, a 2003 born forward from Calgary, AB, joined the Broncos for his rookie season at the start of the 2021/22 SJHL campaign following a successful journey through the Calgary minor hockey system.
“I am extremely excited and honoured to announce my commitment to play NCAA Division I College hockey at Lindenwood University,” said Zielke. “I would like to thank my family, friends, coaches, and teammates for helping me achieve this goal. It wouldn’t be possible without you.”
In 55 games played with the Broncos, Zielke accumulated 36 points (9g, 27a) throughout his rookie season. His development in all aspects of the game grew exponentially throughout the year with 21 of his points coming in the final 24 games.
“Ethan is a player that every coach wants on their team. He will win you faceoffs, kill penalties, contribute on offence, and will never once not give you 110%,” said Head Coach and GM Scott Barney.
Zielke’s game went far and above his production on offence. His defensive ability led him to an imperative shutdown role, consistently lining up against other team’s top lines, as well as the teams most reliable faceoff man in the defensive zone.
Zielke also made his presence felt on the penalty kill and led the SJHL with 6 shorthanded points
Lindenwood University is located in St. Charles, Missouri and just recently announced that their Men’s Hockey program will be joining the NCAA Division I ranks for the first time in the 2022/23 season.
Zielke was named the Roger Nielson Hockey Ministries Award and the Coaches Award for the ‘Best Team Player’ at the Humboldt Broncos Annual Year-End Awards Banquet.
Zielke marks the 8th commitment for the Humboldt Broncos this season, and 3rd to NCAA Division I.
The Humboldt Broncos would like to congratulate Ethan and his family on this incredible accomplishment.
