REGINA, SK – On the day one of the biggest trades in Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League history was finalized one of its pieces made a huge difference right away.

Leo Seitz, acquired by Humboldt from Flin Flon along with Ryan Ulmer and Jack Martin, scored the winner and added a helper as the Broncos outlasted the Melville Millionaires 3-1 Friday.

Connor Miller, who was part of the trade in both directions (acquired by Flin Flon last deadline, returned to Humboldt in the off-season), also had a two-point night, while the recently returned Brady Holtvogt stopped 36 shots to win his second in as many games since his return from the Western Hockey League.

On the other side of that deal, the Flin Flon Bombers got a goal and an assist from Rhett Ewen and 30 stops from Finn Werner en route to a 4-1 victory over the Estevan Bruins.

Werner has allowed only one goal in his last 126 minutes.

In Warman, the Wolverines held on to their top spot in the SJHL standings with a four-goal third-period rally to earn a point in a 6-5 shootout defeat to the Melfort Mustangs.

Melfort’s Dru Mushumanski led the way with a goal and four assists, while his co-league leader in points, Trey Markus, counted two points for the Wolverines.

Mustangs’ forward Luke MacKenzie notched the only goal in the skills competition.

The Canalta Hotels Friday Night Spotlight in Kindersley was all Klippers as Cam Perlinger’s brace paced the hosts to a 5-2 win over their west Sask rival Battlefords North Stars.

Pryce Thiessen, Charlie Kay, and Dylan McCann also added multi-point nights for Kindersley.

Finally in Weyburn, in a rematch of last year’s epic opening-round matchup, the Nipawin Hawks came out on top 5-2 behind a three-goal first period.

The Wings rallied with a pair to open the third period, but two empty-netters sealed the deal for the visitors.

Connor Johnson made 33 stops in the win.
