REGINA, SK – Matt Spencer-Dahl made 40 stops, and Kale Margolis notched the game-winner 5:11 into the second period as the Melville Millionaires downed the Yorkton Terriers 4-1 in Game 1 of their Round 1 series Friday.
The Mils got four different goal scorers on the night, as the No. 7 seed took a 1-0 series lead over the No. 2 Terriers.
Gavin Bartha had Yorkton’s response while Callum Creig stopped 23 shots in defeat.
In Nipawin, it was the No. 5 seed Weyburn Red Wings who stormed out to a 3-0 lead and got 40 saves from Joey Rocha to grab Game 1 4-2 from the No. 4 Hawks.
Will Munro assisted on all three of Weyburn’s first three goals before potting the empty netter to end Nipawin’s furious third-period rally.
Gage Roberts stopped 28 shots in the loss, while rookie Wings’ forward Dion Schraeder counted a goal and an assist in the victory.
Sam Ward let the way with two goals and Charlie Tritt stopped all 17 shots as the No. 1 seeded Flin Flon Bombers blanked the No. 8 Estevan Bruins 5-0.
Daniel Morozov and Wyatt Stinton also counted multi-point nights, while Estevan’s Dylan Adams made 40 saves in the loss.
Finally, in North Battleford, the host North Stars got a goal and an assist from all three of their star veteran forwards – Anthony Campbell, Alessio Nardelli, and Josh Knittig – and downed the Melfort Mustangs 4-2 in Game 1 of their series.
The No. 3-seeded Stars received a superb 40-save effort from Kaeden Serpa in net, while Kason Kobelka replied with 24 stops for Melfort.
