FRIDAY RECAP: Mustangs advance, Broncos one away

MELFORT, SK – Three-quarters of Round 2 is now known.

Ryan Duguay’s goal off a Bruins turnover at the 8:16-mark of the third period held up as the game-winner as the Melfort Mustangs took down Estevan 4-2 in Game 5 Friday night. With the win, Melfort advanced with a 4-1 series victory.

They join the Battlefords North Stars and Flin Flon Bombers in Round 2.

An hour south, the Humboldt Broncos took one step in that direction. Maddox Amaral’s goal and an assist, including the game-winner, led the way and coach Scott Barney’s men downed the Weyburn Red Wings 4-1. Dazza Mitchell made 46 stops in defeat.

Flin Flon – Kindersley: Bombers win series 4-0

Melfort – Estevan: Mustangs win series 4-1

Humboldt – Weyburn: Broncos lead series 3–2

Battlefords – Melville: North Stars win series 4-0
