KLIPPERS BLANK HAWKS TUESDAY

By Craig Stein

CLOSE MAKES 27 SAVES FOR LEAGUE LEADING THIRD SHUTOUT

Justin Close stopped all 27 shots he faced and now leads the SJHL with three shutouts after the Kindersley Klippers went to Nipawin and blanked the Hawks 1-0.

Close came into action Tuesday as one of seven SJHL goalies to have two shutouts on the year, but he broke that tie, following up previous shutout performances September 28th in La Ronge and October 29th at home against Yorkton.

Nipawin’s Kristian Stead is part of that group to have two shutouts this season, and was one save shy of his third, as Kindersley’s Drayton Thunderchief got one by him on a third period powerplay.

The Klippers (10-15-1-0) continue a mid-week road trip Wednesday in La Ronge and wrap it up Thursday in Flin Flon.

The Hawks (12-8-2-0) are off until Friday when they host Melfort to kick off a weekend home and home.
