LA RONGE BACK TO FOURTH

Daylon Mannon had a goal and an assist in the last six minutes of third period and the La Ronge Ice Wolves erased a 3-1 deficit and went on to beat the Notre Dame Hounds 4-3 in a shootout, picking up a huge two points in the standings.

Mannon set up Jake Gudjonson to get the Ice Wolves within one with 5:25 remaining, and then tied things up himself with 58 seconds on the clock.  Mannon was denied in the shootout, but Kyle Ford in the third round to earn La Ronge the key extra point.  Stewart Pond also scored and Xavier Cannon made 38/41 saves.

The Ice Wolves (31-19-3-3) are now back in fourth place overall, one point up on Melfort, one back of third place Yorkton.  La Ronge has just two games left (Flin Flon x2 on the weekend), Yorkton has three and Melfort has four still to go.  Melfort’s in Yorkton on Tuesday.

Curtis Wiebe scored twice for the Hounds (18-30-5-3) on Sunday while Ben Hamilton also found the net, and Ruber Cooper made 39/42 saves in his first SJHL start.
