WARMAN, SK – Humboldt forward Oliver Phillips scored in alone with 1:44 remaining in regulation to hold off Warman’s rally and hand the Broncos a 4-3 win opening night vs. the Wolverines.
Phillips line with Connor Miller and Cody Farrell counted for three of Humboldt’s four goals.
The Broncos burst out to a 3-0 lead before Ezekiel Lambert began the comeback at the 14:03 mark of the second period.
It was the 1400th career game of Humboldt trainer Skip Deeg.
Elsewhere in Weyburn, Melville held off a Red Wings rally to win 4-2.
Leo Jewitt and Hudson Closson both counted multi-point nights, while Noah Kraus made 35 stops for the win in his first Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League start.
Trennen Redlick notched a goal and an assist for the hosts.
The road team’s theme of coming out victorious continued in North Battleford as Konnor Watson’s first as a Klipper held up Kindersley to edge the Battlefords North Stars 3-1.
Mattias Radke stopped 37 shots in the victory.
The defending champs from Flin Flon went down 27 seconds into their contest vs. La Ronge on a Grayden Perozni goal, but scored five straight in the second and third frames to help the Bombers down the Ice Wolves 6-2.
It was the first head coaching victory in the career of new Flin Flon bench boss Cole McCaig.
The only team to hold serve at home was the Melfort Mustangs, who got three-point nights from Dru Mushumanski and Luke Dekay to best the Nipawin Hawks 6-3 at the Northern Lights Palace.
Luke MacKenzie notched the winner shorthanded 7:26 into the third period while Luke McKechnie stopped 24 shots in his first SJHL victory.
