SGEU MVP of the Week: Holden Doell, Battlefords North StarsĀ 

Last week it was Kian Bell and this week it’s his linemate Holden Doell who earns SGEU MVP of the Week honours. Doell, along with his team had another impressive week as they swept their three game in three night road trip through the Parkland. The Martensville, Saskatchewan product finished the trip with 3 goals and 6 assists, which was highlighted by a four point night in a 9-6 win over the Yorkton Terriers in the first game of the road trip. The 19-year-old is 2nd in league scoring heading into the holiday break with 17 goals and 34 assists in 25 games played.

Sasktel Goalie of the Week: Dawson Smith, La Ronge Ice Wolves

The busiest team this past week was the La Ronge Ice Wolves, who played four games in five nights, and earned five out of a possible eight points. A big reason why was the play of goaltender Dawson Smith, who has earned his 2nd Sasktel Goalie of the Week honours. In three games played, the 19-year-old allowed just 3 goals, finishing the week with a 0.97 goals against average and was in between the pipes for both of La Ronge’s wins. Smith is now 2nd in both goals against average and save percentage among goalies in the SJHL going into the holiday break.

Directwest Rookie of the Week: Brett Butz, Yorkton Terriers

The Yorkton Terriers are battling for a playoff spot, and a number of their rookies are stepping up their game to help the club earn points in the standings. This includes rookie forward Brett Butz, who had a great week for the Terriers, despite the club going 1-2. Butz scored his 3rd goal of the season in a win over Estevan and then followed it up with a five assist performance in a 9-6 loss to the first place Battlefords North Stars Thursday. The Edmonton, Alberta product is now up to 3 goals and 13 assists on the season.

SuperU Defenceman of the Week: Kevin Minnoch, Melfort Mustangs

For the 2nd time in three weeks Kevin Minnoch has earned SuperU Defenceman of the Week honours and this past week was a big one for the 20-year-old Sherwood Park, Alberta product. Minnoch started the week with a goal and three assists in a big win over the Melville Millionaires and then Saturday had a three point night against the Nipawin Hawks. Minnoch finished the week with 3 goals and 5 assists in just three games played and now sits in 7th in scoring among Defenceman.
