SGEU MVP of the Week: Kian Bell, Battlefords North Stars

They’ve been ringing the bell quite a bit in Battleford this season as Kian Bell lights up the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. This past week was no exception, as the 19-year-old found the back of the net four times and added an assist as the North Stars improved to 25-0-2-1 on the season this week. Bell leads the way in both goals and points in the SJHL entering the final week prior to the holiday break with 25 goals and 20 assists on the year.

Sasktel Goalie of the Week: Josh Kotai, Battlefords North Stars

For the 3rd time this season, Battlefords North Stars netminder Josh Kotai has earned Sasktel Goalie of the Week honours. The 19-year-old continues to be rock solid in between the pipes for the 1st place North Stars and this past week he was superb. Kotai started two of the three games for the North Stars, allowing just one goal in each game and boasting a .975 SV %. The Abbotsford, B.C product has an 18-0-2-1 record on the year with a 1.94 GAA and a .945 SV %.

Directwest Rookie of the Week: Alyandro De Leon, Nipawin Hawks

While he didn’t start the season with the Nipawin Hawks, Alyandro De Leon has been a big boost to the team’s roster since arriving from the MJHL and the 18-year-old from Langley, B.C is being recognized for his play by being named Directwest Rookie of the Week. Despite the Hawks going just 1-2 this past week, De Leon had a strong week for the young Hawks registering a goal and two assists. In 13 games since joining the Hawks, the 18-year-old has 4 goals and 5 assists.

SuperU Defenceman of the Week: Aleksa Babic, Estevan BruinsĀ 

It was a busy week for the Estevan Bruins, who played 4 games in 6 days, but it was a big week for the club as they earned 7 out of a possible 8 points. Alexsa Babic played a big part in the week as he registered points in every game this week, including a pair of assists in the Bruins 5-4 overtime win in Melville Sunday. Thanks to those assists, Babic now leads the SJHL in points among Defenceman with 3 goals and 24 assists.
