PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (Feb 11)

CANALTA HOTELS SJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Cole Rafuse, Flin Flon Bombers
1999 F Cole Rafuse (Kentville NS) scored four goals in four games this past week as the Bombers officially clinched a playoff berth and appear have to, firmly, locked up the second seed in preparation for the playoffs.  Rafuse had a two goal game at Melville on Wednesday night and potted single markers in Yorkton on Tuesday and at Notre Dame on Friday as the Bombers improved their league best road record. Rafuse now has 36-goals and 43-assists in 49-games.  He leads the league in powerplay goals with 14 and is second in total goals, third in points. Runner-up: Alec Malo, Flin Flon Bombers.

MAYFAIR DIAGNOSTICS SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK:  Dane Hirst, Flin Flon Bombers
1999 D Dane Hirst (Lac du Bonnet MB)  continued his offensive assault this past week with four assists in four games played.  Hirst, who has formed an excellent pairing with Mason Martin, set up two goals on Tuesday at Yorkton and then also had singles assist games on Wednesday and Saturday at Melville and Estevan respectively.  Hirst has 6-goals and 17-assists in 27-games with Flin Flon and 8-goals and 22-assists in 40-games overall. Runner-up: Devan Harrison, Estevan Bruins.

SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK:  Ross Hawryluk, Nipawin Hawks
2001 G Ross Hawryluk (LLoydminster AB) backstopped the Hawks to a pair of wins as they pushed their way into the number three seed in the overall standings.  Hawryluk stopped 16-of-18 in a win over Weyburn on Tuesday night and then blocked 27-of-28 on Thursday as Nipawin completed a perfect two game southern road swing.  Hawryluk is 7-0-and-1 in his last eight decisions and is second amongst active netminders with a 2.39-GAA. He’s 15-5-and-3 with a .924-SPCT and three shutouts on the year.  Runner-up: Kristian Lyon, Battlefords North Stars.

DIRECTWEST SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:  Tristan Lemyre, Flin Flon Bombers
2001 F Tristan Lemyre (Mirabel PQ) continues to distance himself from the rest of the competition amongst SJHL rookies.  Lemyre found the scoresheet in all four road games this week, finishing with 3-goals and 2-assists. Lemyre has points in 17 of his last 18 games, dating back to December 12th. Lemyre had a goal at Yorkton on Tuesday, an assist at Melville on Wednesday, a goal and an assist at Notre Dame on Friday, and then another goal in Estevan on Saturday to run his totals to 25-goals and 28-assists in 37-games.  He has a 10-point lead on Kyle Ford of La Ronge for the league lead in rookie scoring.
