SGEU MVP of the Week & Bourgault Forward of the Week: Justin Lies, Flin Flon Bombers

For the 2nd week in a row, a member of the Flin Flon Bombers has earned both SGEU MVP and Bourgault Forward of the Week honours. This time it is hometown boy Justin Lies who returned to the Bombers for his 20-year-old season and early on he has made a huge impact for his club. In two games this week alone Lies found the back of the net four times and added two assists in a pair of lopsided wins for the Bombers who now sit 5-0-1-0 on the season. He also currently sits 5th in league scoring with 6 goals and 4 assists through 6 games.

SuperU Defenceman of the Week: Connor Thue, Humboldt Broncos

Connor Thue is off to a hot start in his SJHL career. Following his first two games of the season he earned a DirectWest Rookie of the Week crown and now he can add SuperU Defenceman of the Week award to his resume. In two Broncos wins this week, the 19-year-old blue-liner found the back of the net twice and also had a three assist game last Tuesday when the Broncos beat the Ice Wolves 6-2. Despite only playing four games so far this year, Thue is currently ranked 4th among SJHL Defenceman in scoring with 7 points.

DirectWest Rookie of the Week: Austin Osiowy, Kindersley Klippers

The Kindersley Klippers had a successful road trip down to Estevan this past weekend as they earned three out of a possible four points, and a big reason for their success was the play of rookie Defenceman Austin Osiowy. The 18-year-old from Calgary, AB scored his 2nd goal of the season Saturday night in Kindersley’s 4-3 win over the Bruins and added an assist. The evening prior he also had a pair of helpers. In five games so far this season, the rookie blue-liner has 2 goals and 4 assists which has him in a tie for 5th in SJHL scoring by a Defenceman.

Sasktel Goalie of the Week: Justen Maric, Battlefords North Stars

A familiar face returned to the crease this past weekend for the Battlefords North Stars. Justen Maric returned from the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL and made an immediate impact in his first game back, registering a 36 save shutout against the Nipawin Hawks Friday night in the Cage. Despite falling in the 2nd half of the home and home at the ACC in North Battleford, the 19-year-old made 27 saves in the loss.

Saskatchewan Player of the Week: Jacob Cossette, La Ronge Ice Wolves (from Air Ronge, Sask)

It was a busy week for the La Ronge Ice Wolves who played four games in five nights out on the road, and for 19-year-old Jacob Cossette he had himself a week. In four games, the Air Ronge, Sask product found the back of the net twice and added four assists as the Ice Wolves snagged three out of a possible eight points on the road. The 19-year-old is now up to four goals and five assists on the season.
