RED WINGS WIN MONDAY NIGHTER

By Craig Stein

The Weyburn Red Wings have pulled into a dead even tie at the top of the Viterra Division with their rivals from Estevan, thanks to a 4-1 victory over the third place Melville Millionaires on Monday night.

The Millionaires (7-14-0-2) opened the scoring in the first period thanks to a Tucker Chapman powerplay goal and it stayed 1-0 Melville through forty minutes.

In the final frame, however, the Red Wings scored three straight powerplay goals, the first two coming in the first three minutes of the period just 19 seconds apart, and added an empty netter to seal the deal.  Landon Walters, Tyran Brown, Erik Olson and Ben Hiltz (1g-1a) did the scoring and Arik Weersink made 19/20 saves.

Connor Dochuk stopped 45 of the 48 shots he faced in goal for the Millionaires.

Through 22 games, the Red Wings and Estevan Bruins now have identical 14-6-2-0 records at the top of the Viterra Division, good for 30 points, a 14 points edge over the Millionaires.

The SJHL schedule resumes Tuesday with just one game again, as a pair of Sherwood rivals clash in Flin Flon as the Bombers host the Melfort Mustangs.
