SJHL Power Rankings – Week 23 (Mar. 10, 2026)
1. Flin Flon Bombers (Last week 2)
The Bombers kicked off March in style with a couple of hard-fought wins against the Battlefords North Stars, a team they will very likely meet again down the road in the playoffs. Despite injuries and their first home loss two weekends ago, they still found a way at the Whitney Forum and hold a remarkable 25-0-1 record when playing on the Manitoba side of the border. Charlie Tritt has a terrific shot at being a SaskTel Goaltender of the Year finalist, and perhaps even the winner, after his outstanding campaign between Humboldt and Flin Flon. With the No. 1 seed locked up, it’ll be interesting to watch what affiliates Mike Reagan can rustle up to play in the maroon in their final few games.
2. Melfort Mustangs (Last week 3)
The Mustangs’ long win streak finally came to a close this past week, with a loss at home Friday to Nipawin, but they were able to hold off a furious Yorkton rally on Saturday to get right back into the win column. Wednesday’s clash at home against Estevan could dictate a lot of the rest of the season, as the Mustangs will be looking to take a firmer grip on sixth with Melville coming on hard. Still, they deserve to be where they are in the power rankings, given how dominant they’ve been in the second half of the campaign, winning 13 of their last 14 games.
3. Weyburn Red Wings (Last week 4)
The Weyburn ship was a little creaky out of the January trade deadline, but they look to be fully back on track now. Winners of six of their last eight, including two massive victories this past weekend against the Yorkton Terriers, the Wings have not given up on a Bunge Division title, which looks to go down to the wire. Youngsters like Aiden Mohan and Dion Schraeder have done a marvellous job up front, filling the void left by the injured captain Lucas Schmid, and the even better news is that Joey Rocha has been solid lately in net. One against Melville, and a pair against Highway 39 rivals Estevan await on their quest for home-ice advantage in Round 1.
4. Nipawin Hawks (Last week 6)
The Hawks had a brilliant week last week, giving up a single goal and pulling out wins against Melfort and Warman. The disparity in wins at home vs away means home-ice advantage is critical for Nipawin, and it won’t come easy with dates against Flin Flon and Melfort to end the campaign. That said, this team is healthy and firing on all cylinders, and the Bombers will have nothing at all to play for, so all things are possible. Tad Kozun’s men could finish as high as second, and as low as fifth, with only two games left. They should have a whole bunch of season award finalists to celebrate this week.
5. Yorkton Terriers (Last week 1)
As frustrating as last week’s two losses against Weyburn and the one against Melfort must have been, the Terriers are still in a great spot given their destiny is fully in their hands to finish in the No. 2 spot (in which they still sit at the time of this writing). The other good news is that they played very well in the last two periods against the Mustangs and almost came all the way back from down 4-1, so it sets up a terrific final pair of Highway 10 rivalry games with Melville that could also be a Round 1 matchup. It’s worth repeating: we could see nine (9!!) straight Yorkton-Melville games if that series goes seven… how fun would that be? Lots to be sorted before that, though.
6. Battlefords North Stars (Last week 5)
Despite taking three out of a possible six games over captain Anthony Campbell’s three-game suspension this past week, the Stars should be very proud of their effort up in Flin Flon. With a set left against a Kindersley team that may have nothing to play for, prospects are still looking up for Connor Logan’s men. The home-ice advantage picture is clear as mud, but as much as the ‘coach-speakers’ will tell you it doesn’t matter, they all want to avoid third and a likely Round 1 date with Melfort. So, the schedule is favourable for the Stars, and look for a rested Campbell to come back with a vengeance.
7. Melville Millionaires (Last week 8)
It’s a busy and very profitable week for the Mils. Three games, three wins, two of whom against the Estevan Bruins, which sealed the Moneymen’s playoff spot. Their schedule is tough, but they have played well against Yorkton and Weyburn this year, their two opponents the rest of the way, and Matt Spencer-Dahl is absolutely on fire in net. As was written in the Yorkton section, how about the prospects of a Melville-Yorkton Round 1? Sign me up.
8. Estevan Bruins (Last week 7)
The Bruins have always been a confident, ‘don’t show them you’re hurt’ bunch, but it’s time to put up or shut up in Energy City. With a three-point lead on Humboldt for the eighth and final playoff spot, their destiny is in their own hands, despite two tough losses to Melville last week. The schedule is not friendly to the Bruins the rest of the way, with Melfort and two against Weyburn coming up, but there is enough talent on this team to find enough points to fend off Humboldt or Kindersley’s challenge. Will they? We’ll have to find out this week!
9. Humboldt Broncos (Last week 9)
The Broncos dropped the ball majorly in La Ronge last week, losing on Thursday, but three out of four points was absolutely the minimum they could have lived with, and they are still alive. The difference between Humboldt home and away this year has been wild, but with as light a schedule as they could have asked for in the final three, their playoff hopes almost hinge more on what Estevan does than what they do. The tilt with Kindersley Tuesday night is as close to a Game 7 simulation as this season has seen so far. We all knew this team would play their hearts out to the end for Brayden Klimosko and Carter Hansen.
10. Kindersley Klippers (Last week 10)
If the Broncos are on respiratory therapy, the Klippers’ playoff hopes are on full-on life support. A regulation loss to Humboldt Tuesday would end their season, but as they have not played since Feb. 28, they should have had ample time to rest up, reload, practice, and get ready for the game to save their campaign. Between Van Eger, Rusty Demo, and company, there is plenty of talent and experience here to make a late-season push, but it really comes down to Tuesday.
11. La Ronge Ice Wolves (Last week 12)
Whatever the results, the Ice Wolves have responded extremely well to Bob Beatty’s interim tutelage, and for that, they deserve a ton of credit. A home win against Humboldt last week was just desserts for this fan base that still showed up despite a tough campaign at the JRMCC, and they gave the desperate Broncos all they could handle Friday as well. If this group sticks together, there is plenty of grit and talent in this core.
12. Warman Wolverines (Last week 11)
The league’s newest franchise can only go up from here! The positives are that there are all sorts of young players who can come back next season, not least of all one of the league’s elite young defenders, Pherson Loehndorf, who has been spectacular.
