SJHL Power Rankings – Week 5 (Oct. 21, 2025)
1. Weyburn Red Wings (Last week 1)
Up to No. 8 in the CJHL rankings, the Wings had a near-perfect October with six wins from seven, and the last six in a row. Coach Cody Mapes is likely happy with the 11 goals in the previous two games this past weekend, but he’s probably even happier about the only three against potent offences from Flin Flon and Nipawin.
2. Humboldt Broncos (Last week 4)
After an uneven start to October, the Broncos have certainly righted the ship, and their lone contest from the week, a 6-1 win over La Ronge, was yet another example. Humboldt has scored 12 and given up one in their last two games, and begins a run of five-straight at the Elgar Petersen Arena. Jacob Strizzi can’t stop scoring: he’s at 14 goals through 12 games at the time of writing, on pace for 65.
3. Estevan Bruins (Last week 7)
Estevan has won five in a row, four of which came at Affinity Place. The combination of Ewan Rennie between Rylan Williams and super rookie Cash Olson has been money in the bank, with the two vets first and third in league scoring at the time of this writing, while the young buck is second among rookies. Big wins over Nipawin and Flin Flon have Drew Kocur’s men full of confidence.
4. Kindersley Klippers (Last week 5)
Wild ups and downs have been regular for this organization, really for this whole decade, and it’s been more of the same in the Kyle Schneider era. A busy and challenging four-games-in-five-days run this past week yielded six of a possible eight points, and ended on a very high note with an eight (yes, 8) power-play goal game in Melville. The Klips are still the only team in the league with a single regulation loss, and have a squad depth almost unequalled in the SJHL, so there really are not many excuses for this crew every night.
5. Melfort Mustangs (Last week 6)
If there’s ever a blip for the two-time defending champs, coach/GM Trevor Blevins and his staff never take too long to rectify it, and the addition of potential superstar Logan Peskett up front looks to be about to yield serious fruit. A win and a loss this past week to pesky Yorkton continued the theme of an inconsistent October, but Madden Mulawka is back, and it’s likely more reinforcements are on the way.
6. Nipawin Hawks (Last week 2)
Injuries, more than anything, derailed the Hawks this past week, though running into the red-hot Highway 39 rivals Estevan and Weyburn did not help either. Nipawin got poorly beaten twice, but some early-season adversity can only help this talented group. Watch for a terrific Friday Night Spotlight presented by IKS Media when they visit Humboldt this Friday.
7. Yorkton Terriers (Last week 7)
Emery Olauson’s men have won three of the last four, and all three were big ones, with victories over their Highway 10 rivals in Melville and at home to Flin Flon and Melfort. Callum Creig and Alexandro Montoya have proven to be a solid tandem in net, and Gabe Courchesne is leading a group with just enough offence to be a hard out every night.
8. Flin Flon Bombers (Last week 3)
The Bombers’ great fans are likely hoping this is the darkest of the darkest dark before the dawn. Six losses in a row is something almost unheard of during the remarkable consistency the organization has shown this decade. That all being said, the team was around .500 this time last year, and went on a ridiculous tear the rest of the way. Mike Reagan deserves all the patience they have in Bomber Nation, so this writer suggests giving it to him.
9. Battlefords North Stars (Last week 10)
Indeed, October has been inconsistent for the North Stars, but they’ve hardly been at home. A run of seven away from home ends Nov. 2, and a loss to the struggling Warman Wolverines this past weekend darkened what was a thunderous performance in the same venue the night before. This team was always going to be a work in progress, but Coach Logan has the parts to beat anyone on a given night.
10. Melville Millionaires (Last week 8)
There is no two ways around it: it was a tough week for the Mils. Three losses after emotional wins two weeks ago are the name of the game, simply meaning that the Melville fits in the broader framework of junior hockey: there will be ups, and there will be downs. Having a whole week off before a busy three games in three days weekend is huge, and Doug Johnson has proven time and again he can right the ship when it feels like the sky is falling.
11. Warman Wolverines (Last week 12)
Boy, did Warman need that win against Battlefords Saturday, a day after getting hammered by the same team. Oliver Nottingham has shown right away to be a premium young talent up front, and with Carter Bergen already in, the called-for remodel by Brett Pilkington looks to be on the way. Momentum has been hard to come by for the young Wolverines, so they’ll be looking to find a way to finally launch with three games in four days this weekend ahead.
12. La Ronge Ice Wolves (Last week 11)
Kevin Kaminski’s men broke a run of eight consecutive games where every game was by one or two goals on Tuesday. A solid win at home over Warman was followed by a tough defeat Friday at the always-tough Elgar Petersen Arena. Their Top 4 defenders – Owen Christiansen, Owen Turner, Trevor Oishi and Mattias De Zen – have been one of the best-kept secrets in the league so far.
