SJHL ’08-’09 Auto-Protects to Watch

REGINA, SK – With the 2024 Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Draft in the rearview mirror, it is important to note that our ‘Stay Here, Play Here’ vision includes the valuing of homegrown players aged 17-and-under who chose to play in their home market.

To that end, we have the ‘Auto-Protect’ rule, which states:

Players who are automatically protected by SJHL teams are;

  • All players under the age of 17 in each team centre. A team must register a 17 year old on their protected list within 72 hours of his 17-year birthday.
  • U18 players from each team centre who are playing Midget AAA.
  • Players who were formerly carded by a team but now play Major Junior and who have eligibility remaining.
