 When Tim Gould moved thousands of kilometres from home as a 15-year-old he wanted to continue developing as a hockey player while also having an opportunity to further his education.

Now in his third year at Athol Murray College in Wilcox, the Riverview, N.B., product appears to be on track to accomplishing both of those goals.

The 6-foot-0, 180-pound defenceman is in his rookie campaign with the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s Notre Dame Hounds and after registering six goals and 13 assists in his first 25 games he has been tabbed as one of 60 hopefuls seeking a spot on Team West for the upcoming World Junior “A” Challenge.

Gould heads to Calgary this weekend to try and nail down a roster spot for that club leaving a Hounds team he has helped challenge for both the Olympic Buildings’ Division and overall point’s titles.

Prior to making the jump to the junior level, with one year of midget eligibility remaining, Gould spent two seasons playing Midget AAA hockey at Notre Dame. As a 15-year-old with the Argos, Gould registered seven assists in 41 games while last year with the Hounds he improved on that total dramatically by scoring twice and setting up 21 others in 43 games.

The last time Gould played hockey in the Maritimes was when he spent his final year of bantam hockey with the Bantam AAA Voyageurs in 2014-15. He had nine points in 27 games that season, but if everything works out the way he hopes he could be back on home soil – almost – as the World Junior “A” Challenge will be played in Truro, N.S., in mid-December.

With as many as three more years of junior eligibility remaining after this year, Gould will have plenty of time to continue developing his skills and with that he will undoubtedly get plenty of attention from post-secondary institutions.
