All three Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League games scheduled for Tuesday night have been postponed due to the winter storm and travel conditions.
Nipawin @ Flin Flon
Estevan @ Melville
Melfort @ Humboldt
All three have significant bearing on how the playoff picture shakes out.
The Hawks and Bombers still need to decide who will finish first in the Sherwood Division. Nipawin holds a two point edge while Flin Flon has the tie-breaker thanks to winning six of the seven previous head to head meetings, so a regulation win by the Bombers would give them the Sherwood pennant, and the second overall playoff seed. A Nipawin win or even an overtime or shootout loss, would make the Hawks the Sherwood winners, and put the Bombers into 4th place overall and give them a Quarter-Final date with Humboldt.
With both teams off until next weekend, and the extra travel, the urgency isn’t quite as high for the rescheduled date, but the two teams are tentatively planning to make up the first place showdown on Wednesday, however a team source says that call won’t be officially made until Wednesday.
The other two postponed games are set to be made up for Wednesday, as one of Melfort or Melville is bound for the Wild Card Series, which was to start as early as Thursday (the Kindersley/Weyburn series is starting Thursday in Weyburn).
Melfort has a one point lead on Melville for the final playoff spot, and holds the tie-breaker, having beat Melville in all four regular season meetings they played. Melfort would need a win or an overtime/shootout loss when they visit Humboldt in order to clinch the 10th and final playoff spot, or have Melville fail to pick up two points when they host Estevan in their finale.
