REGINA, SK – Jack Janzen and Ashton Tait each recorded three-point nights, leading the Nipawin Hawks to a 5-2 win over the La Ronge Ice Wolves on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation at the JRMCC.
Connor Johnson made 25 saves in his Nipawin debut as the Hawks recorded their first victory of the season.
Easton Kozak and William Knox responded for the hosts.
La Ronge wore special orange jerseys in honour of the day that honours residential school survivors, their families, and communities, and to remember the children who never came home from them.
Elsewhere in Weyburn, Rhett Ewen scored twice, and Finn Werner stopped all 33 shots he faced to help the Flin Flon Bombers blank the Red Wings 3-0.
Ethan Berard responded with 32 saves in the Weyburn net, while Ryan Ulmer’s second-period marker held up as the winner.
It was a rematch of last year’s epic Round 2 series, which Flin Flon won in seven games.
