The Humboldt Broncos scored two first period goals, and that was just enough as they held off the visiting La Ronge Ice Wolves 2-1 on Wednesday night, the only game on the SJHL schedule.
Josh Patrician and Chase Felgueiras provided those first period markers for the Broncos (12-5-2-0) who now move into first place in the Global Ag Risk Solutions Division, after picking up points in five straight games (4-0-1).
Dylan Thackeray got La Ronge on the board early in the second period, and the goalies shut the door at both ends of the rink the rest of the way. Shots were 37-17 Humboldt, with Daniel Davidson making 35/37 saves for the Ice Wolves (6-13-0-0). Dane Dow turned away 16/17 in the Humboldt net.
A pair of divisional matches on Thursday will see Kindersley on the road in Notre Dame while Melfort welcomes Flin Flon to kick off November.
