HAWKS WIN LONE WEDNESDAY MATCHUP

By Craig Stein

The Nipawin Hawks scored four unanswered third period goals to come from behind and beat the Kindersley Klippers 4-1 on the road, in Wednesday’s only scheduled SJHL game.

Grant Baetsen scored Nipawin’s first goal, over eight minutes into the final frame.  Griffin Wiencek and Jake Gerbner then scored powerplay goals just over two minutes apart to put it out of reach, and Logan Casavant added a late empty netter.

Kristian Stead made 23/24 saves for the Hawks (12-6-2-0), who snapped a three game losing streak.

Jordan Funk scored for the Klippers (9-14-1-0), and Justen Close made 35/38 saves.

There’s also one game Thursday, as Humboldt welcomes Estevan.
