REGINA, SK – Connor Johnson made 37 saves, and Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League points leader Brock Evans scored the shootout winner as the Nipawin Hawks clipped the Humboldt Broncos 3-2 in the skills competition Tuesday.

Ryan Ulmer and Jovan Sandhu gave the host Broncos a 2-0 lead by the 4:34 mark of the opening frame, but Mason Karakochuk and Will Whitter’s second-period goals sent the contest to extra time.

Karakochuk’s was his 16th, and the league’s goal-scoring leader also scored in the shootout.

Brady Holtvogt was also solid in the Humboldt net, stopping 28 shots in the loss.

The Hawks have now won four in a row and have taken 13 of a possible 14 points over their last seven games.
