MELFORT, SK – For the second year in a row, the Melfort Mustangs are the Canterra Seeds Cup champions.
Zach Turner’s power-play one-timer on a neat feed from Ashton Paul at the 8:27 mark of the second period stood up as the winner, and Kristian Coombs earned his third shutout of the final in Melfort’s 3-0 Game 5 win over the Weyburn Red Wings.
Reilley Kotai scored his seventh of the post-season on a lovely wrister after he circled the top of the slot 4:47 into the third frame, and then Logan Belton sealed the win in the empty net.
Mustangs’ captain Ty Thornton was named the UPL Playoff MVP.
