Players of the Week

By Mike Stackhouse

WEEK ENDING SEPT.18, 2016

CANALTA HOTELS SJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:  Lynnden Pastachak, Estevan Bruins
1996 F Lynnden Pastachak (Bienfait SK) wasted no time getting his season started on the right foot as he contributed five points in two games, both victories over the Melville Millionaires.  Pastachak enters the season a veteran of 140 SJHL games.  Runner-up:  Kalem Zary, Melfort.

IBAS SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK:  Eric Sinclair, Melfort Mustangs
1996 D Eric Sinclair (Kenora ON) started off his season with a flurry as he scored goals in both wins against LaRonge over the weekend and ended up with five points in the two games played.  Sinclair was last year’s SJHL Defenseman Of The Year and has a shot at winning the award two years in a row if the first weekend is any indication.  Runner-up:  Jeremy Lagler, Weyburn.

SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK:  Nathan Hargrave, Weyburn Red Wings
1996 G Nathan Hargrave (Abbotsford BC) was a preseason acquisition from Kindersley to help fill the void left by Jack Burgart’s departure to graduation and he answered the bell on the weekend by backstopping the Wings to a pair of victories over Yorkton, finishing with an 0.98-GAA and .969-SPCT (62 saves on 64 shots).  Runner-up:  Nathan Alalouf, Estevan

SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:  Antonio DiPaolo, Humboldt Broncos
1999 D Antonio DiPaolo (Saskatoon SK) made the most of his single game appearance of the weekend, registering one assist in a win over the Notre Dame Hounds.  The 17-year-old still has a year of midget eligibility, however he appears to be stating his case to be a regular in Humboldt after playing with Beardy’s.  Runner-up:  Devon Becker, Weyburn.
