SJHL Power Rankings – Week 14 (Jan. 6, 2026)
1. Flin Flon Bombers (Last week 1)
Flin Flon has gone a remarkable 14-0 at the Whitney Forum this season thus far, which includes outscoring La Ronge and Melfort a combined 13-4 over the last two up in northern Manitoba. Mike Reagan’s men followed that up with a hard-fought 1-0 win Saturday at the Mustangs, with the previous two games coming without three of their players gone to the Viking Cup.
2. Weyburn Red Wings (Last week 2)
The Wings played well in both games to start the new year against their rival Estevan Bruins, despite the split, and the best news has to be on the signing front, as long-time Western Hockey League veteran netminder Joey Rocha joined the club. Is he the final piece of the puzzle to bring a championship to ‘The Friendly City’? Cody Mapes sure hopes so.
3. Battlefords North Stars (Last week 4)
Battlefords is flying high after two wins around New Year’s vs their big-time rival, Kindersley Klippers. Linken Fisher was brilliant while playing big minutes with team captain Gavin Granger gone to the Viking Cup, and the two wins were ever more impressive given their first-line centre, Anthony Campbell, was similarly unavailable. Kaeden Serpa continues to thrive in the SJHL in net, but could another goaltender be coming the Stars’ way, given how well his running mate, Steele Bass, has done with his WHL club in Prince Albert?
4. Estevan Bruins (Last week 3)
Recent results for the Bruins have to be taken with a big grain of salt, given the fact that not only were three big-time performers gone at the Viking Cup, but so was head coach Drew Kocur. Dylan Adams showed he’s one of the SJHL’s elite in Saturday’s home victory vs. Weyburn, while the job Kocur has done in continuing to tinker with this roster continues to pay off. Big-time kudos to Estevan defenceman Ethan Andrews, who scored the gold-medal winning overtime goal at the Viking Cup.
5. Nipawin Hawks (Last week 5)
It has been a long time since the Hawks were fully healthy, but whenever they get Brendan Olson back from the Viking Cup, they seem to be getting closer. Eric Hoiness has completely returned to consistent form, which is huge for this club, while the expectation is for Braeden Jockims to be one of the league’s elite forwards once he’s entirely up to speed. This train looks to be back on the track with three wins in its last four.
6. Yorkton Terriers (Last week 9)
A powerful December was interrupted by a loss in Warman on Saturday. Still, after a four-game win streak that included impressive victories vs. some of the SJHL’s best, there is good reason for Emery Olauson to believe it to have been just a blip. Even with how well the Terriers have played, nobody in the league has played fewer home games, so there is a decent chance the good times are here to stay at the Westland Arena.
7. Humboldt Broncos (Last week 7)
Humboldt has not played much lately, aside from a hard-fought win in Warman on Saturday. Brady Holtvogt was the best goaltender at the recently concluded Viking Cup, despite being the tournament’s youngest player, and with Charlie Tritt back healthy, is there a better 1-2 punch in the net in the SJHL?
8. Kindersley Klippers (Last week 6)
The sledding has been tough lately for the Klips, currently on a three-game skid, but Van Eger and Russ Demo were both brilliant on and off the ice at the Viking Cup, so there is plenty of hope and experience in this team. GM Ryan Gibson is likely busy working to replace the production of the departed Avery Johnson ahead of Jan. 10’s trade deadline.
9. Melville Millionaires (Last week 8)
The season of wild ups and downs at the CN Community Centre continues after the Mils had a hard time solving Yorkton’s Callum Creig on Friday. Still, they did not play very much in December, and like their Highway 10 rivals, they have plenty of home games the rest of the way. Matt Spencer-Dahl is the real deal in net.
10. Melfort Mustangs (Last week 10)
Almost everyone is eager to find out in which direction the talent-laden, yet struggling, Mustangs will go at the trade deadline. Two more losses this past weekend to the high-flying Flin Flon Bombers are fair enough, but there are too many good pieces here for Trevor Blevins to move everyone. The expectation should be more of a retool than a proper rebuild. Zayden Sadlemyer was arguably the best player for Team SJHL at the Viking Cup from start to finish.
11. Warman Wolverines (Last week 11)
There likely has not been a more consistent breakout star this year than Pherson Loehndorf, who showed flashes as a rookie a season ago, but is truly one of the league’s top all-around defenceman right now. Surely Brett Pilkington will be making some moves to get younger at the trade deadline and build for the future, but there is a lot to like about this group moving forward.
12. La Ronge Ice Wolves (Last week 12)
This challenging year for Kevin Kaminski and the Wolves continues. Still, Graham Brown’s incredible performances in net on the ice and remarkable attitude off it are a shining example of what we hope all the players in our league can be. Connor Hoemsen has been a revelation since coming over from Flin Flon, and is part of a host of talented young players that could be a force if they stick together at the beautiful JRMCC.
