The Rankings
Weyburn Red Wings
Last week: 1
The Wings are winners of six in a row, including two this past weekend, when they outscored the opposition 12-3. All guns are blazing for Cody Mapes and his men, especially veteran forward Callas Pierce, who has nine goals and 11 points in his last six games. Even with 1B goaltender Ethan Berard away with the Brandon Wheat Kings, Nate Stevens was terrific when called upon this past weekend, and the Wings led the whole time. Weyburn also has three more in a row at home starting Wednesday against Bunge Division rival Yorkton, so it’s great times at the Whitecap Resources Centre.
Warman Wolverines
Last week: 3
Do it pretty, do it ugly, Brett Pilkington’s men have consistently found a way to turn a loss into a point, or a tie game into two points, so often that it’s worth assuming it’s the norm rather than an early-season fluke. The Wolverines picked up two more wins this past weekend, pushing their win streak to three: one grind-it-out win vs. Melville, and one a little more high-flying vs. Battlefords. It’ll be intriguing to see Warman do it all over again Tuesday with the North Stars, in the same rink. Jaggar John’s arrival from the Saskatoon Blades has been a boon and has already added depth scoring behind Trey Markus, who has been near the top of the scoring leaders all year.
Humboldt Broncos
Last week: 5
Humboldt’s top-9 forward group is proving hard for anyone to match, and after two games in which they scored 11 goals this past weekend, they may be starting to catch fire. Not many teams in Trevor Blevins’ tenure in Melfort have had anyone visit the Mustangs and put up six goals, something the Broncos did Saturday (it was the first time this season, and it happened only three times in the last three seasons combined). Connor Miller’s seven-game point streak is the second-longest such run in the league so far this year, and the captain has been held scoreless in only one of the nine games he’s played so far.
Flin Flon Bombers
Last week: 2
The Whitney Forum was such a fortress of consistency for Flin Flon that Friday’s shellacking at the hands of the Melfort was the club’s first regulation regular-season home loss since October of 2024! Cole McCaig was happy with how his club bounced back the next night in the second 2026 CANTERRA SEEDS Cup Final rematch of the year vs. Yorkton, and the Bombers will have a shot at revenge Tuesday night at the home of the Mustangs. In typical recent Flin Flon fashion, you have to go all the way to 29th (Hudson Brehaut) to find the first Bomber in the scoring race, but they are so deep all over their roster. It’s the same winning formula that brought them their championship last year.
Melfort Mustangs
Last week: 4
The Mustangs were already in solid form heading into Friday’s rivalry classic with the Bombers in Flin Flon, but they may look back on the 6-1 win as a real springboard to even greater heights. They came out like a house on fire Saturday at home vs. Humboldt, but a rare capitulation, in which the Mustangs allowed five goals in a row, will have Trevor Blevins scratching his head. Consistency was tough for them last year, so the staff will be looking to make sure Saturday’s frustration was a one-off.
Melville Millionaires
Last week: 7
The Mils are flying in October, even though they have played only two of their seven games so far at the friendly confines of the CN Community Centre. Johnson’s men played a road three-games-in-three-days this past weekend, and came away with five out of six points in a trio of one-goal games. Injuries on the back end have meant big minutes for Louis Nadeau and Keil Schmalz, but the two veterans have responded terrifically. Half of Melville’s games have been of the one-goal variety, and they have earned at least a point in five of the six.
Nipawin Hawks
Last week: 8
The Hawks have scored five goals or more in their last seven games, which shouldn’t surprise given the firepower they can bring to bear, but it is still an impressive stat. Tad Kozun’s men have gone 5-1-1 in that stretch, and Mason Karakochuk has scored in all but one of those games (including three multi-goal games). Nipawin’s lack of a more dramatic rise in the SaskPower Rankings might be because they have played only one game in the last 11 days, but with the way they’re rolling, they could keep rising fast.
Kindersley Klippers
Last week: 6
If you take empty-netters out of the equation, the Klippers have had one-goal games in all but one contest so far in October. After two impressive wins to start the month, Kyle Schneider’s men have battled hard but fell short in the last three to end their five-game home stand. Konnor Watson has lived up to the hype atop the Klippers line-up, scoring in all seven of his appearances in green so far, and the power play continues to hum along, with the Klippers among only four teams in the league at the time of writing over 20%. Schneider, GM Ryan Gibson, and co have valiantly continued to rely on youth, with three 2009s taking regular shifts, but brought in veteran forward Adam Perron to add stability. They have a hot Nipawin team Wednesday, then four in a row vs. Flin Flon…so we’re about to learn a lot about the Klippers.
Yorkton Terriers
Last week: 9
Emery Olauson’s tenure has always had its downs with its remarkable ups, and more often than not the man in his fourth year at the helm has figured it out. This recent stretch of road games has been a bit of a struggle for results, but in both games this past weekend, at red-hot Nipawin and Flin Flon, they carried the play for long stretches. It doesn’t get any easier Wednesday in Weyburn, but the schedule may level out a bit to end October. Yorkton also has a full week off to start November, so it will be interesting to see how they look coming out of that little break. Callum Creig’s 48 goalie wins are clearly the most in the league over the last three years, so as long as they have him, they will be a tough out.
La Ronge Ice Wolves
Last week: 12
La Ronge’s schedule all year has been brutal, and five of their last six games have been against the league’s top 3 teams. That they could walk into Estevan after three games in three short days, put together a solid performance, and take a 6-3 win says a lot about the growing belief in this young core, and the addition of firecracker Tyce Penrod has only boosted this group’s confidence. The Wolves have five of their six home games to end October and start November, so good times may be ahead for Tayler Harnett’s squad.
Battlefords North Stars
Last week: 10
The frustration of going from being one game away from the final a year ago to 10th place and a five-game skid early this year is palatable and warranted coming out of Battlefords. This relatively veteran and talented team is still looking for its identity, and while this roster plays well in stretches, consistency has been a struggle to find. The only silver lining to Saturday’s loss in Warman is the chance at quick revenge Tuesday night, when they’ll head right back to the Warman Home Centre Communiplex. The Stars still have plenty of time and talent to right the ship!
Estevan Bruins
Last week: 11
It is hard to remember a tougher weekend in the Bruins’ fine history than the tough losses to Weyburn and La Ronge, but the leadership in the room has to help this team shake it off and go again. Drew Kocur pulled off a move to bring in the rights to local boy/former U15 Bruins star and last year’s second-leading scorer in Sask U18, Nathan Gardiner, from Melville, along with forward Deegan Petruska, and will look to get some important reinforcements back to health soon—still a long way to go this year, just like with the Stars.
