REGINA, SK – Super Friday in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League featured all sorts of drama.
Dawson Karol had a night to remember. He scored four goals and added an assist to help the Kindersley Klippers take down the Yorkton Terriers 8-5 in a goal fest.
On the other end of that spectrum, Weyburn’s Angelo Zol and Melville’s Nick Genette went shot-for-shot, but it was the former who made one more stop as the Red Wings edged the Millionaires 1-0 at Crescent Point Place. Liam Fitzgerald’s winner is his second game-winner out of five total goals so far this year.
The Broncos roared back East of the provincial border with four straight after the Bombers had taken a 2-0 lead in the second period. Humboldt ultimately held on for a 4-3 win over Flin Flon, led by a terrific performance in net from Ty Matonovich.
In Estevan, the Bruins rallied in the third period down 3-1 to the Mustangs, but Melfort nabbed the game-winner just under six minutes remaining in regulation to take the 4-3 victory.
Rookie Lucas Schoenborn paced the North Stars with two goals as Battlefords won a back-and-forth affair in La Ronge over the Ice Wolves 5-3.
Finally, in Nipawin, Spencer Borsos made 43 stops, and the Notre Dame Hounds offence came alive to the tune of a 7-3 victory over the Hawks. Ripley Garden notched a three-point night, while Neka Jean added two goals to continue to lead the league in points among true rookies.
