REGINA, SK – Both of Tuesday’s clashes were wildly consequential.

Humboldt captain Cage Newans snapped a four-game goalless drought in style as he ended the marathon triple-overtime thriller and handed the Broncos a 3-2 Game 3 win at the Elgar Petersen Arena.

Both goaltenders, Ben Motew for Humboldt, and James Venne for Melfort, were spectacular all night, and made 65 and 63 saves, respectively.

Meanwhile, at the Access Communications Centre in North Battleford, it was determined that the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League will have a brand new champion in 2024.

The Canterra Seeds Cup holders, the Battlefords North Stars, were eliminated as last year’s runners-up Flin Flon Bombers scored four straight goals to take the 5-1 Game 4 victory.

Harmon Laser-Hume once again led the way with 35 saves for the No. 1 seeded Bombers, while playoff MVP candidate Justin Lies’ post-season-leading ninth goal stood up as the game-winner.

The Broncos and Mustangs will have no time to shake off the cobwebs from their 3OT marathon, while the Bombers are in for a likely nine-day rest before the final begins.
