WEYBURN RED WINGS

KEY RETURNEES:

1998 F Tyran Brown (Weyburn SK)

1999 D Garrett Szeremley (Morden MB)

1999 F Jordan Kazymyra (Regina SK)

1999 F Cade Kowalski (Mordan MB)

1999 F Ben Hiltz (Weyburn SK)

1999 D Carson Scheschuk (Wadena SK)

2000 F Connor Pyne (White City SK)

2000 D Jevon Schwean (Moosomin SK)

The Wings look to have some returnees on defense step up and they’ve had a good offseason securing a veteran goaltender from the WHL.  The trio of Hiltz-Kowalski-Kazymyra may be one of the best in the league. If last year’s depth players are ready to assume more prominent roles, Weyburn will be one of the league’s better clubs.

OTHER PLAYERS TO WATCH

1998 G Riley Lamb (Rivers MB) is coming off two seasons in the WHL and was 3.27, .902 with Red Deer last year.  He’s a veteran of 83 major junior games, WHL Goalie Of The Month in February, and a former Midget AAA MVP.

2000 G Cody Levesque (Carnduff SK) will be in a battle with Liam McCloskey and does project to be a good Junior ‘A’ netminder after posting a 2.51-GAA and .920-SPCT with Swift Current Midget AAA last year.  He’s also got great size at 6’5” and 208 lbs.

2000 D Carsen Robertson (Bethune SK) captained his Midget AAA team in Battlefords and has good mobility scoring 1-goal and 14-assists in 33-games last year.  He also AP’d four games with Weyburn.

2001 D Mkyllan Couture (Pilot Butte SK) 3-goals and 12-assists in 26-games with Swift Current Midget AAA, has a good frame and contributes in all areas.

2000 D Cole DeKoninck (Lorette MB) is a fourth forward on the ice as evidenced by 20-goals and 38-assists in 48-games with the Eastman Selects Midget AAA.  He was also a second team all-star.

1998 F Burke Johnstone (Yellow Grass SK) Split last year between Notre Dame and Dryden of the SIJHL, compiling a goal and 18-assists in 60-games; he has a lot of needed experience and winning seems to follow him.

2000 F Sven Schefer (Winkler MB) comes from the same Midget AAA program as Kowalski and put up similar numbers with them a year ago (48-20-33-53).

2000 F Jake Mulder (Abbotsford BC) won the BC Major Midget Championship last year and scored 14-goals and 22-assists in 39-games with Fraser Valley.  He also had 3-goals and 3-assists in 7-playoff games.

2000 F Rhett Frey (Weyburn SK) The Red Wings have managed to cultivate their local talent, perhaps, better than any team in the league.  Enter Frey, Tisdale’s captain from last year. 44-9-8-17.

2000 F Bryce Krauter (Winnipeg MB) Skilled, playmaking forward who had 7-goals and 40-assists in 41-games with Interlake Midget AAA.
