FLIN FLON, MB – The Flin Flon power play went 3-for-7, and local forward Wyatt Stinton’s second goal of the night held up as the winner as the Bombers outlasted the Yorkton Terriers 7-3 in Game 1 of the 2026 Canterra Seeds Cup Final Friday night.
Stinton, whose first goal of the playoffs came in Flin Flon’s Game 7, Round 2 victory vs. Weyburn on Wednesday, had the puck dribble over the line off his body at the 10:02 mark of the second period after he had been knocked down by Terriers’ defender Nathan Gray. The goal gave the Bombers a 4-1 lead at the time.
Reigning SuperU SJHL Defenceman of the Year Thomas Ries’ eighth of the playoffs, and rookie forward Austin Horbachewsky’s first-ever post-season SJHL goal came 33 seconds apart, 32 seconds after Stinton’s eventual winner, and cut Flin Flon’s lead to one.
Rhett Ewen’s snipe off a rebound from a Ryder Knutson point shot on the third of the Bombers’ goals with the man advantage at 12:20 of the middle frame restored the hosts’ two-goal lead, and two more tallies in the third put the game out of reach.
Gabriel Courchesne, the Leo Parker Award winner given to the SJHL regular season scoring champion, blasted home a one-timer with 4:25 remaining in the first period for Yorkton’s power play marker on the night.
Charlie Tritt made 32 saves in the win, while five separate Bombers counted multi-point nights, led by a goal and two assists from Connor Miller.
It was the first time that the Flin Flon Bombers won Game 1 of an SJHL final in exactly 10 years, almost to the day, as they beat the Melfort Mustangs 6-3 on April 15, 2016. The Maroon were 0-for-4 in Game 1s since.
The Bombers improved to 33-1-1 at the Whitney Forum on the campaign.
