PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (Dec 3)

CANALTA HOTELS SJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:  Cole Rafuse, Flin Flon Bombers
1999 F Cole Rafuse (Kentville NS) gets the nod for the second time in three weeks after he rifled off 4-goals and 6-assists in 4-road games played last week, all of them being Bomber victories.  His biggest performance came on Friday when he scored three goals after the Bombers fell behind 4-2, to lead them to a 7-4 win.  It was a five point game for Rafuse, who followed it up the next night with a goal and two helpers in a win over Weyburn.  He started the week with a 2-assist game at Melville on Tuesday.  Overall, he’s second in the league in scoring with 23-goals and 27-assists in 29-games.  Runner-up:  Donavan Houle, Flin Flon.

MAYFAIR DIAGNOSTICS SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK:  Max Johnson, Nipawin Hawks
2000 D Max Johnson (Grand Forks ND USA) helped the Hawks win a pair of games over Humboldt this past week, contributing 3-assists in 2-games played.  Johnson, who has been a force on the powerplay, set up a goal with the man advantage as part of a three goal outburst in the second period of a come from behind win over the Broncos on Friday in what ended up being a two-point game for him.  Johnson also had a powerplay assist on Saturday in a win over Humboldt and he has 11-powerplay points on the year.  In 27-games, Johnson has 6-goals and 13-assists.  Runner-up:  Ryan Granville, Yorkton.

SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK:  Shawn Parkinson, Melfort Mustangs
1999 G Shawn Parkinson (Victoria BC) blanked the La Ronge Ice Wolves on Friday night with a 17-save effort and then he kept his team in the game the next night with 27-saves on 29-shots as it was the Ice Wolves’ turn to post a shutout win.  The loss on Saturday stopped a personal four game win streak for Parkinson, who is 13-6-1-and-1 on the year with a 2.39-GAA and .923-SPCT.  This week’s shutout was his first of the year.   Runner-up:  Ryan Ouellette, Yorkton.

DIRECTWEST SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:  Tristan Lemyre, Flin Flon Bombers
2001 F Tristan Lemyre (Mirabel PQ) found the scoresheet in all four road games this past week, including two point games in each of the last three.  Lemyre scored a goal against Melville on Tuesday and then had back to back 1-goal, 1-assist games at Notre Dame on Thursday and Estevan on Friday.  He finished the week with 2-assists at Weyburn on Saturday and he has 11-points in his last 8-games played.  For the season, Lemyre is second amongst SJHL rookies in points per game and he is up to 10-goals and 8-assists in 17-games.  Runner-up:  Braden Birnie, Weyburn.
